Supply-Chain Management

The phrase "Supply Management" has become synonymous with "Procurement" in today's business environment. This phrase has largely replaced the expression, "Supply-Chain Management" which historically encompassed the requisitioning, ordering, shipping, receiving, inventorying, using, and paying for products and associated services.

Strategic Procurement Solutions believes that while today's focus upon strategic sourcing is very important, some value has been lost in understanding the entire acquisition/logistics process. We do not always agree with many consultants who want to outsource competent internal functions. Our team members have significant experience in internal operations, having managed large inventories, logistic networks, and internal operations. "Real world" experience has taught us many internal operations can provide excellent service levels at competitive cost levels.

Outsourcing, however, can be a useful tool in the procurement team's arsenal when thoughtfully approached and well-managed. We work with our client to determine the strategy and assumptions they wish to apply to a "make or buy" outsourcing decision. Then we objectively assemble information necessary for the client to make the best overall decision.

Our services include:

  • Process Engineering - Strategic Procurement Solutions helps to optimize acquisition processes, whether strategic or tactical. We identify & eliminate redundant or unnecessary steps that may slow down the supply chain.
  • Inventory Management - Our partners have extensive experience managing warehouse and J.I.T. programs, whether company-operated or outsourced. We assist clients in focusing on their core competencies and leveraging supplier resources to minimize inventory investment levels.
  • Distribution Optimization - Inbound and outbound transportation is an integral element of the supply chain. We assist clients in the selection of cost-effective distribution options, whether by ground, rail, air, or secured transport.
